Yes, and it is actually encouraged that you do so! It's the best way to communicate with the forum without having signed up, so you can ask any questions you'd like there. People are generally around every day, so you'll probably get a response quickly.
I don’t want my account deleted, but I have to leave for a few weeks. Is that okay?
Yeah, of course. But make sure you tell us in the Absences thread, or you will be delete if you disappear.
Can I create more than one character?
You betcha. Just because of the style of our roleplay, many people have up to ten characters. Don't think that means you need to make that many, though. It's the sort of thing that builds up over time, and you can do just fine with one or two.
How many threads can I participate in at once?
As many as you can handle/use proper timekeeping for.
Timekeeping?
Anima Eterna takes place about two decades from now (currently in the year 2020) but otherwise we roughly follow real time for the dates of our threads. For example, if you were to make a thread this year in June, and you wanted it to be later in the month, dating it something like "June 26th, 2020" would make sense. This kind of thing generally makes sure that roleplay keeps moving, but the main reason we do it is to clearly define what order events take place in.
Can I make shops/clubs/stores/buildings/organizations/anything else I could think of?
Most likely! Just ask an admin for permission first, and we can certainly work something out.
Character Building
Are you looking for average first characters? You probably don't want a bunch of uber-special prima donnas, right?
Well, actually...PLEASE DO NOT MAKE JOE-AVERAGE CHARACTERS. I cannot emphasize this enough. While some sites may prefer for first characters to stay pretty average, Anima Eterna is honestly not that kind of game. Understand that most of the character you'll be dealing with are somehow exceptional, because Anima Eterna is a high powered, high stakes, high adventure kind of place. On the average day you'll be associating with characters that are things like the daughter of a reigning Dark Lord, the human embodiment of an element, or a jaded teenage member of an underground vigilante core.
It's not that you have to go crazy with this stuff, but it is really to you benefit to give your character some kind of unique skill, quality, or situation that you can work with when it comes to plotting. Otherwise, it's highly possible that they will just end up falling to the wayside, or at least that you'll end up being bored. AE is no longer a site about regular school things- it's about a war, and characters have come to reflect that.
Can I use His Heirs or other existent characters in my character’s history?
Maybe, maybe not. Depends who, and in what way. Before you use anyone else’s character in your history, it’s important that you ask them. But most people around here like plots, so I’m sure if you ask them about it reasonably they’ll be willing to hear you out. In the case of His Heirs, please keep in mind…They are not entirely NPCs. There are people in charge of them. The admins must be asked first before you may use them too liberally.
Are we allowed to make things like ghosts, vampires, werewolves, and veela like things for characters?
Yes, but only if you really back it up in your application and show us you can be trusted with a character like that. Show us how that nature has effected your character's life and personality- don't just add it on top for flavouring.
Can I make a character that belong to one of the sects like the Death Eaters, the Order, or the Initiative?
Yep. Just make sure you know enough about the organization that you can play it, and work it into your back story. We actually encourage people to join these groups, as it helps them become involved in the plot.
Can I play a bad guy?
Hell yeah. In fact, we encourage it. Bad guys create plot and can lead to interesting situations and the drama that we love. Furthermore, they are damn fun to play.
Roleplay Tactics
Why does that post contain characters that aren’t from the account it was posted by?
That would be because many of us have multiple characters we like to use simultaneously, and it is simpler than making a bunch of separate posts. Each character has their own account, they just haven’t split up the post into different characters.
How do I get involved in plots?
My best suggestion would be to talk to other players. Anima Eterna is a very story based roleplay, and it can be difficult to get involved in things unless you get a hook into a plot. Naturally, people around here love plotting, so if you express an interested in getting your character involved in stuff then someone is bound to take you up on it. On a related note, it really helps for your character to have some kind of niche that they can fill- another idea is to actually create a character specifically to fit into the plot.
Are we allowed to make up our own spells?
Hell yeah! But be smart about it. You can make up all the spells you like, provided they are realistic to your character’s skill and common sense. As Zi once put it, “As long as it's not something like, 'The legal spell that never misses and always kills its target.'” ‘Cause that’s flipping crazy. Also, make sure to describe what your spell is supposed to accomplish.
The Plot
What are the Eterna?
The Eterna are the first race of wizards and witches that existed thousands of years ago but died out in a war- the survivors developed into modern day magic folk. Their main fortress was what has currently been rebuilt into the school of Anima Eterna, and it seems like some of their spirits still haunt the building, as well as lingering ancient magic. Part of the current plot is based on the premise that things have been shifting around in the spirit world, leading to more and more ancient magic being released.
What is Eterna magic like?
It's wandless and more powerful than modern magic. It has the capabilities to do things that normal wizards would never dream of. A long with that, there are many aspects that are much more ritual/rune based- some Eterna magic is extremely complicated but rewards the user with incredible effects. Modern wizards are, for the most part, incapable of using Eterna magic- the ability to wield it is one of the huge weapons the various sects are trying to gain. As it stands, only one woman named Erishae can use it, along with the elementals.
What are elementals and where did they come from?
Elemental magic is a form of Eterna magic what was awakened into the modern world in the fall of 2019. It was contained in four talismans until they found appropriate hosts- they fell into the hands of Dominic Constantine (Earth), Josef Netri (Water), Catalina Ombiero (Air) and Morgan Donnelly (Fire), and were activated by a ritual done by Erishae.
The four with the talismans became the four Avatars, and were gifted with potentially limitless control over their elements. When this happened, the rest of the elemental magic was shot off in random directions, imbuing random people with less powerful elemental affinities, such as flame, energy, lightning, wind, geo, flora, ice, and aqua. More information about the workings of elemental magic can be found under Abilities.
Who are His Heirs?
The current leaders of the Death Eaters and the 'heirs' of Lord Voldemort. There's three of them, named His Heir the First, His Heir the Second, and His Heir the Third. Possibly more dangerous than their predecessor. They have attacked AE en masse on two separate occasions.
What is the Order?
A very secretive underground group that grew out of a bunch of "enlightened" Death Eaters. All their members are bound by a vow of secrecy and obedience called the Oath, and are commanded by four witches and wizard called the Council. They have recently overthrown the Ministry and are ruling Europe with an iron fist.
Still confused? If so, I would suggest asking any of the admins on the staff page, or go to the help section on the forum. We'll gladly answer any further questions.
