Rogue Ministry
"Tell me where our time went, and if it was time well spen.
Just don't let me fall asleep feeling empty again."
When you’re fast asleep at night, we’re the ones who go out and track down those thugs that have been attacking people in dark alleyways. We’re the ones that give our lives to guard yours. It’s been said we’re the only competent sector of the Ministry.
I’m of that mind myself.
Some people are just born to be aurors. Of course, not all of them end up actually taking that path, and you could say that there are a few people in the department who have had to work really hard to get to where they are. For some of us, though, it’s like it was the only thing we were ever meant to do. It’s not enough to be young and free. It’s not enough to simply want to be about something. You know you’re getting somewhere when your personal life goes up in flames because all you can think about is the latest mission. But you don’t know whether or not you’re really cut out for this until you watch your friends die, until you’re forced to accept that it happens and there’s not a damn thing you can do about it.
The aurors knew something was up with the Ministry before the Order ever took over. You’ve probably heard about them by now. Don’t be fooled by their sugar-coated promises. They’re more power hungry than any of the Ministers ever thought of being. But we knew before all those fawking little public service announcements. We didn’t have a name for it, but things were changing.
So I left, because I’d be damned before I’d be a part of this. And the more seasoned vets, the ones who knew what was what, they left too. And for awhile, it felt like we had nothing. All these years, we gave everything we had, and some of us even lost ourselves in this battle for light. And all of it seemed empty in the wake of this takeover.
Those of us who still have it in us have become rogue vigilantes. You might see former aurors skulking around the four corners of the world, always watching, waiting for the right moment to strike. If all of us came together, we might be a force to be reckoned with. Maybe we could make a difference.
But the days in which we stood together… they might just be gone for good.
