How to pick the right fancy dress costume for your child
So your child comes home and utters the phrase you dread – “There’s this fancy dress party…” – don’t despair! There are a range of kids fancy dress options out there for you to choose from, for all budgets and all occasions.
With the wide range of costumes available, it can be tricky to choose which will be best for your child. Why not start by thinking of their favourite television, story or movie characters? Chances are there is a costume for it – with everything from Scooby-Doo, Winne the Pooh and Darth Vadar, to Cinderella, Minnie Mouse and High School Musical characters on offer.
Also it can be difficult to know what to choose for your child as they get older. For example, babies and children up to about the age of two will probably not be fazed no matter which costume you put on them. As such, it can be easier to pick generic options such as fairies or animals (like dogs, cats or even cows!). For Halloween, handy choices can be pumpkins, ghosts and little witches/devils.
After about the age of two, kids start to recognise their favourite film characters, like Toy Story’s Woody or Snow White’s Doc – making it easier to find them something they will love come fancy dress time. Or, as they get a little older, why not ask them what they want to be when they grow up? This is often a good source of inspiration, and lets them live out their fantasy for a while!
If you are the one holding the fancy dress party, why not go all out and set your own theme? Everyone could come as farmyard animals, professions, cartoon characters, or even members of the circus! There really are a range of ideas you could explore, so why not start your research now for next year’s birthday, and get ahead of the game.
