"We are the shaken, we are the monsters underneath your bed.
We are mistaken, we are the voices inside your head."
Vampires
To begin, it should be noted that hunting or slaying any vampire is against the law laid in place by the Ministry, as they are considered sentient beings under magical law. That said, it is best to explain what they are before continuing. They are primarily muggles who were killed and bitten afterwards by more of their kind. These are the sorts you hear of losing their minds and souls – though hardly the sorts you'd notice about Anima Eterna. They are, for one, far too difficult to recruit into any faction (meaning even the Death Eaters tend to leave these vampires alone, I'd imagine), and secondly, would be murderous beings incapable of controlling themselves.
Wizards who've died and have been bitten are a different matter. Though no one is entirely sure how, the magic within them counteracts a small part of the curse. They are immortal, 'allergic' to garlic, cannot go into any sort of direct sunlight, and need an invitation to enter anyone's home or room. The only real difference lies in their keeping their souls, which renders them capable of controlling their more primal urges should they choose to do so.
And that isn't to say they all do.
Veela
Veela are both the subject of lust and fear, depending on who you speak with. Most the time, they appear as slightly ethereal, though quite normal human beings. It's highly rare to have a veela whose hair is not blonde, given their roots in northern Europe, and the eyes tend to be blue or grey for the same reason. Their secondary form is far less appealing, as they sprout large, leathery wings from their backs, their features shift to those slightly more bird-like with traces of feathering about the edges of their faces, and nails become talon-like. In this form, they are capable of creating and throwing small balls of fire, though are deemed weak due to a hollow bone structure.
As a race, they are possessed of the ability to charm at will, generally attracting the attention (more often than not of the sexual variety) of those about them, given gender preferences of course. This is much like their ability to perform a sort of 'sexy dance', for lack of a better term, that would attract such attentions as well. Transformations to their other form can be voluntary or triggered by surprise/extreme anger/etc.
One should note that veela cannot use magic unless they are half-breeds to some degree – and that once the blood is diluted enough, they lose the ability to transform. Finding a midpoint is a dangerous game of genetics that really ought not to be played.
Werewolves
Werewolves are yet another cursed race. Originally humans, they were mauled by another werewolf and thus became one. The process is simple enough, though finding a werewolf in its more feral form who might be willing to bite you could potentially be quite difficult – not that I would assume any of you would care to be bitten by such a creature. It's good to realize, however, that much like the other two races mentioned here, they appear primarily in a human form.
Unlike the muggle versions of vampires, they all retain their souls. It would make finding werewolves who did not lock themselves away for three nights of the month (that which precedes the full moon, the night of the full moon itself, and the night which follows) rather difficult. There can be other instances where these horrific transformations can be brought about, though it is usually a most pressing circumstance. They grow immeasurably larger, adding kilograms of muscle weight as they do. They become more wolf-like, though remain oddly humanoid in spite of this, with enhanced senses kicking in. Their claws and teeth are their only real weapons beyond their incredible strength and speed, which is enough to make them formidable opponents.
The curse of the werewolf does not grant immortality, and may never be lifted. It is not necessarily genetic, though there have been reported cases of lycanthropy being passed down. Studies would estimate that werewolves who create children with perfectly normal humans leave for their child a fifty-fifty chance of inheriting the curse in full, or not at all. As with most things magical, there is no halfway.
